A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Book 1

Good Girl, Bad Blood book cover

Another year, another mystery. This time Pip needs to solve a mystery so a murder won't happen. A kidnapping of a close friend's brother, if not found in time might lead to another tragedy. This is Good Girl, Bad Blood; a welcome by Pippa Fitz Amobi.

GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD BOOK SUMMARY:

Pip now has a podcast called "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" which is a series of episodes of her solving the Andie Bell murder case. It was supposed to have only one season.

Andie Bell's case gave a lot more than the truth. The mystery was solved, the truth unveiled, and Pip was left with unnecessary baggage that she never thought she would have to endure. Barney paid the price of Pip's obsession with solving the Andie Bell case. So Pip decided to pull back.

No more mystery cases. The first became the last. Cara's father was in jail for attempted murder. Max Hastings was at trial too for drugging and raping girls at the parties which included Andie's sister, Becca Bell.

It all changed when Pip's friend Connor's older brother went missing. Jamie had a history of running away which made his family kind of used to him being missing. But he had always made it clear before he ran away. Unlike this time, when he went out, and never came back.

Jamie disappeared the night of Andie and Sal's memorial ceremony. The whole Little Kilton had come together to remember the gone. The Singh family came forward to say a few words about Sal who didn't get a proper goodbye before. Pip also met the new neighbors that had shifted to Little Kilton. A property her mother got a couple in their town.

Pip hadn't exactly gone back to her normal but she was trying her best by ignoring her past work and only focusing on her final year at high school.

It all changed when Connor came to her house with an emergency. Pip found out that Jamie had gone missing and Connor wanted Pip to find him before anything went wrong. The police couldn't do much due to Jamie's history of disappearing and it had not been more than 24 hours.

Pip said no but due to Connor's perseverance, she agreed. Her mom was dejected by her idea of investigating another case but she knew Jamie's mom. As always, Ravi was there to help her investigate and find Jamie before it was too late.

Despite all odds, there Pip was, ready to investigate another case, and the listeners got a welcome on A Good Girl's Guide to Murder: Season 2 podcast by Pippa Fitz Amobi.

The only question left was, Where was Jamie?

GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD BOOK REVIEW:

It's no picnic to maintain the standard of a book series. Many authors fail to replicate what they delivered before. It's safe to say that this was not the case with Good Girl, Bad Blood.

Introduction of new characters, interesting new plot, and a tragic ending (I didn't spoil anything, trust me). Pip and Cara's friendship continued, and so did Pip and Ravi's relationship. The format of the book was the same as before, with transcripts, images, and maps. Minus the third book, the other two don't give you a clue about who the culprit might be at least that was the case for me.

As said before, humor is a huge plus, a necessity in my case. It was not overdone, it had the perfect dose. The second thing I love in any book is overcoming past traumas and Pip's journey can break your heart. An EPQ assignment led to something she had never imagined and it didn't seem to end.

As I have read all three parts, I found this one a little slow and boring compared to the other two books. It lacked the kind of thrill that was present in the first and the last book. But not boring enough to not read it. It is a boring that can be ignored.

A 4.5/5. The book doesn't end on a cliffhanger and you still can't wait to read the next part. That is how you know it's well-written and a great trilogy.

GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD QUOTES:

1. 'Joshua got into trouble today, sent to the headteacher.' Her mum's brow knotted. 'Apparently, Camilla Brown's pencil sharpener went missing, and Josh decided to interrogate his classmates about it, finding evidence, and drawing up a persons of interest list. He made four kids cry.'
'Oh,' Pip said, that pit opening up in her stomach again. Yes, she was in trouble. 'OK, OK. Shall I talk to him?'
'Yes, I think you should. Now,' her mum said, raising her mug, and taking a noisy sip.
Pip slid off the stool with a gritted smile and padded back towards the living room.

(Chapter 1; Page 16)

2. She quickened her pace. 'We're going too slowly. Let's split up.' 'No, but I really really like you.'
And Pip could feel Ravi's smirk, even though she wasn't looking at him.

(Chapter 22; Page 150)

3. They traipsed towards the house together, steps falling in time. 'Are we squad goals?' Ravi whispered to Pip. Cara heard and snorted.
'I said quietly. That means no jokes and no pig snorts.' Which was how each of them reacted to nervous energy.

(Chapter 26; Page 184)

4. 'Oh, justice exists,' Charlie said, looking up at the rain. 'Maybe not the kind that happens in police stations and courtrooms, but it does exist. And when you really think about it, those words- good and bad, right and wrong- don't really matter in the real world. Who gets to decide what they mean: those people who just got it wrong and let him walk free? No,' he shook his head. 'I think we all get to decide what good and bad and right and wrong mean to us, not what we're told to accept. You did nothing wrong. Don't beat yourself up for other people's mistakes.'

(Chapter 32; Page 214)

5. 'I know how that feels,' Nat said. 'That anger. Like you just want to set fire to the world and watch it burn.'

(Chapter 34; Page 220)

Quote of the book:

"Maybe I don't have to be good, or other's people version of good. And maybe I don't have to be likeable."

Looking forward to your response. How did you like this part? The third part will be uploaded soon.
